pinging Question with CAI and Tune
So I loaded the 91 Race Tune today after being on my second tank of premium gas. The first time I filled up there was about 1/8th of a tank left of 87 octane and then today when I filled up it was on E.
After loading the tune, at about 4500 RPMS, I am getting some pinging. I drove for a bit and then did another "spirited" test drive and it seemed the pinging didnt start till 5000rpms.
I really like the way the race tune feels and was wondering, if I am getting some pinging on the high end, would it do damage to my engine if I just stay under 4k rpms for about half a tank and then try another sprint to see if the pinging is gone. I thought I wouldve burned off most of the 87 that was left 2 tanks ago but I guess not.
what do you all think?

Is your tune unlocked? If so try retarding the timing in the 4k-8k range by 3 degrees and see how it feels if it still pings lower it again by another 3, if it clears up contact the tuner to have them send you and adjusted tune.

Sparta: Thanks for option. I might try that tomorrow.
mapitts: was doing some research and it seems that phx is notorious for having crap gas. Was looking around at other forums and it seems that alot of people that require premium gas in their cars get pinging using circle K, shell and chevron.
Kind of sucks cause the Circle K close to me is one of the cheapest prices in town....now I know why.
I guess I might have to stay under 4500 RPMs for this tank of gas and then try another place. I tried one more drive and the pinging seems to be fading but still can be heard around 5k, so it could be residual 87 still burning off but I dont want to keep pushing it.

Wait are you using Premium (89) or the actual 91? Maybe a stupid question. I'm on painkillers right now so excuse me if it does sound a bit funny.
Anyways.
I don't think it is the gas. I know that after 1 tank all of my old gas was burned through. Can you tell us what tunes you have?

I am running 91 octane. Sorry around here premium gas is 91 octane...89 is super unleaded.
Nuke: I will try a new station for next fill up. Should I go back to the 87 performance tune until I burn through this tank? Or just make sure I stay under the 5k RPM limit?
The tunes that I have are from bama and are 87 street, 87 performance and 91 race
