Record highs causing engine/internal problems?
I live in Edmond, OK and drive an 06 Mustang GT, auto. I'm 17 and have only had the car for a little over a year, so I'm still learning. Recently we've been having record high temperatures, it's like our 20th somethin day above 100. I think it's starting to mess with my car. I keep getting the check charging system indicator off and on, sometimes for a 1/4 mile, sometimes for 10. I don't know what's going on, any input would be nice.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Our OEM alternators are notorious for being marginal. The heat might have sent a component of the alternator over the precipice, I'd just have it tested ASAP. Doubtful that would come on due to any other reason.

Well, previous visits there have lead me to believe that they know what they're doing, hopefully. I definately think it's the alternator. I got a new 3-year battery not two months ago. But, lets hope for the best. Going in tomorrow morning.
+1 on this one. Never understood it myself. If your battery croaked in the winter, it is about the time to be showing up now. Then you have the alternator trying to charge a dying battery........
OK first check all the basics. Yeah, sounds stupid but I've had more issues with "professionals" neglecting to do such things as.... making sure the terminals are clean and TIGHT....
That and check the tension on the serpentine belt. They don't always protest when slipping and in the extreme heat that could be an issue. Hmmmm... now that I think of it.... I'm driving an 05 and I don't know if it's the original belt on there or not. Might be a real good idea to replace it.
Aside from the basics, yeah, then have it tested. Good luck and yeah, this heat is hell on all systems. Be they mechanical, electrical or organic. ;-)

+1 on getting a load test. And if you still have the OE MotorCrap battery, then I'd replace it with an Interstate or other battery brand you're comfortable with. Be sure your battery terminals and the cable clamps are clean and tight first.
