v6 to v8

v6 to v8
aight i dont know where exactly to put this thread... but I have an 2006 v6 mustang that my mom bought me as a graduation gift back in 2009... it has 120,000 miles, and I asked a dealership how much trade in value i could get and they said $5,000... so Im just going to keep it and I only have about $1,500 in the car (rims and a few engine mods)... So to me it would be better for me to swap out the motor for a v8 instead of buying a gt cause I didnt buy the car to begin with... my question is how much would it be to do the swap? I know i got to have better suspension, brakes, and a different transmisson... and advice is welcome on this decision...
Thanks

yea i figured it would be between 10 to 12 thousand... I would def just trade in my v6 for a v8 if I had bought it... but im going to take my time with this build... like 5 years til its done... Im going to buy a truck as a daily driver, and slowly turn my v6 to a v8... my v6 is an automatic, now how hard would it be to swap to a manual with the v8... as long as i found a motor and manual trans with the computer wouldnt i just have to add a petal for the clutch?

find a junkyard with a totalled out GT (preferably a 09 model). buy the whole car for a few thousand.
or even better, make a deal to get all the parts you need and sell the junkyard your current motor/trans to offset the cost.
it would be easier and better to have a complete donor car sitting there to snag parts you need

+1, also if you are serious about this sign up for Mustangcollective.com.
Many members of that forum have done V8 swaps in their V6s, the 4.6 and 5.4.
They have a lot of info on our 4.0s too.
I have looked into this and a 4.6 out of a GT is relatively cheap and you can find a TR3650 for a reasonable price. I think you could do it for less than 10K as long as you could do most of the work yourself.

+1. Look us up on mustangcollective.com.
All depends on how much you have to pay for labor (if anything), and what you can find the major parts for (a good used engine+trans are the key parts of course).
I could have done my swap for under $2500, with no labor costs, had I just installed everything without additional significant modifications (and engine internals build-up).

Yea that's what I've been thinking about is finding a gt at a junkyard and buying the parts I need off of it... Thanks for the advice I just wanted to make sure I was on the right thinking path before I got to involved in this project

7.5" axles will put up with a normally aspirated 4.6L V8 for most driving that doesn't include dragstrips or stoplight "competitions".
But if there's much chance of those ever happening you might want to grab the GT's 8.8" axle while you're at it. Or just get a GT's 8.8 for the limited slip diff.
