I have remote start on my Acadia and it works awesome. you just press remote start and unlock the doors. no need to worry about a thief as it wont go into drive. it is basically to cool/heat the car. I have tried to drive off on accident and wont do anything until you put the key in and turn it to run.

If the car shuts off when you open the door, that is lame.

Hi everyone,

When the vehicle is started using remote start, the system will stall the engine when you either enter the vehicle or shift the vehicle into gear. Prior to the engine stall, the vehicle will have administrative privileges. As epictwist said, when you restart the engine, the vehicle will identify the user as an admin or MyKey driver depending on the settings of the actual key used to start the vehicle.

So the reason it's shutting off is because I'm not using the admin key? (I got two pairs of keys so maybe that's it?)

Here is what the Owners Manual States:
Vehicles equipped with traditional keys:
When using a Ford-approved remote start system, the default settings
will recognize the remote start system as an additional admin key with
its associated privileges. Owners of vehicles equipped with traditional
keys should program the remote start system as a MyKey™ in addition
to the key that they have already programmed as a MyKey™. To
program the remote start system as MyKey™, do the following:
1. Enter the vehicle and close all doors.
2. Remote start the vehicle using a remote start fob.
3. Follow Steps 1-4 in the Create a MyKey™ section

The Ford Parts Instructions for the Bi Directional Remote Start offers this:
*MyKey vehicle remote start systems will shut down upon vehicle entry. Please see vehicle owner’s guide or remote start owner’s manual for more information.

It sounds like the Remote Start is programmed as a MyKey and needs to be an admin key to stop the door open shut off.

This is very odd. I have a 2011 GT/CS that I was considering adding this to. If this is the only way it works I would pass on it. Remote starters disable all functions until the key is inserted and turned. I have a 2010 Ram 1500 that remains running until I hit the remote again or times out after no key inserted. The time to run can be changed. If this vehicle is unlocked with the remote, it will not shut off when the door is opened. If it is opened without the remote(from the inside or break in) it will shut off.

Yeah, it's confusing. I don't know why they just don't make it simple to use like every other car maker.

And yeah, the car locks itself when you push the button to remote start, so I'm not buying the whole thief scenario.

Hello,

When remote start is used, it starts as Admin regardless of which key is used. It shuts off to have a key physically entered, so it can obtain the correct programming as either Admin or MyKey.

Please don't do this, unless you have a deathwish for you and your family.

Finally got it to work. Follwed some instructions on some other foruim. The remote start is actually USEFUL now and doesn't shut the engine off when you unlock and open the door. Whoot.

I was thinking the same thing... Starting a car in the garage with the door closed....

I guess this is why carbon monoxide detectors are big buisness. Think people...

It's a no brainer that I'd open the garage door first...lol. Come on, people.
