Drove by this sight today. Apparently the barriers came down on his windshield and instead of going back, he just gunned it. Guy was in his 60s so I wonder what he was thinking. Took the train 1.4 mile to stop and it dragged the car for 50 yards.
wow, old people suck. If the barrier came down on the windshield and he couldn't gun it fast enough to get accross then he has some really slow reactions. There's usually about a 5-10 second delay between the time a barrier comes down to the time the train actually crosses the intersection. 5 seconds is longer than at GT-500 takes to hit 60 and would put him at least 100 yards away from the intersection. Idiot.
I don't think we know the whole story. I'm betting on there being a vehicle behind him, so rather than smash into it, he tried to go forward. Could be the gate didn't just break away like you see in the movies (and when the car already has a head of steam going for it).
If you're only a little bit lucky, you'll make it into your 60's like some of us already have. From here, it doesn't seem that old at all.
