Default Tempeture Gauge acting funny

So this what's happening, It basically works 50% of the time. I started my car yesterday and went out, the temp gauge would read COLD the whole time even after 15 minutes of driving, So while i was rolling, i shut off the car then started it and the gauge started to work and read in the middle.

I get to my destination. I come back in the car, start it and the gauge works. But then again, i get somewhere else ( yes i had a crazy night ) then when i get in the car and start it, it doesn't work. so it's almost like going into a pattern, 1 time it works, the other time it doesn't. Please help if anyone know what might be the problem. Thank you !

Simple. 2005's and early 2006's I believe had bad a stepper motors in the gauge cluster. They work intermitenly or not at all. I had 3 of 4 gauges die before I replaced the whole gauge cluster. If you have soldering skills stepper motors can be purchased on eBay for around $7 each. Good luck!

I experience the same issues. When it's cold outside, my temp doesn't even move! I just listen for my fan and as long as it keeps kicking on, all is good. On occassion, my RPM gauge is sometimes off by 500 or so. I am not too worried about it, unless my MPH starts acting up, then I will be more concerned.

funny you say that cause when it started acting up, it was actually cold. but yesterday and today was a bit warmer and i haven't had this issue yet, I guess we will this how things turn out when it gets really cold here in NC

There's people who will replace the stepper motors in the cluster for under $100.

It may happen off and on....Typically, if the temp is below 60, my gauge doesn't move.

I had this issue, and also the gas gauge would point straight down. Dealer fixed it and now my blinkers make no tick tick noise and neither does it make noise when the key is in the ignition, lights left on or door is open. Is this related?
