Default 5-speed vs automatic

Hi guys, I'm thinking of buy an 05 gt and was wondering to people that have driven both if the 5-speed feels noticebly faster. Also this may sound like a dumb question but will a stock automatic gt do good donuts?

My stock auto GT would burn out from a dead stop. Certainly would imagine it would have done donuts if I so desired. Cant imagine why I would want too. LOL

With a cai and tune it would chirp the tires into second and third gear. If you plan an drag racing competitivly get the auto.

What are you looking to do with the car? Auto-x, drag, streetable vehicle?

When you start making lots of power, the auto becomes a popular choice simply because of its consistency. From what I am told, the manuals are known to have several defects from factory, such as the hard shifts, grinding, gear lockout, etc.

However, I won't argue that they are much more involving and enjoyable. But this isn't a very objective statement (personal preference comes into play).

I am not sure which model year mustangs you are looking at, but I must warn you that the 2011+ manuals have been known to produce all kinds of problems extremely early in their life cycle (almost brand new 5.0L mustangs are having problems with the new getrag).

I've driven both and they feel about the same....the manual feels as though it revs a little quicker. The manual also gives a more of a "driver's" car experience and the automatic is a put it in drive and go feeling. Either way it's great to drive a mustang!

I'm just looking to do basic mods such as exhaust, tune, cai and maybe gears.

fyi, it doesn't really help on any level if it "feels" faster.
donuts? yeah, grow up.

for straight line accelaration NOBODY can shift faster that an auto tranny.

for road course driving a manual will provide much more control over revs, braking, etc.

best of both worlds would be auto w paddle shift option like vettes and many more, not sure if thats available in todays mustangs, definetely not in 05-09.

5 weeks ago I bought my 2006 GT. I looked at manuals only. I love it so far but i dont plan on racing either. I just bought this car to use as a weekend cruiser.

Brass tax, it's all YOUR preference. Get what you think you'll still like after the honeymoon is over with the new purchase. I'm a manual guy, but that's what I want. I know guys that have let others talk them into manuals, only to hate it 6 months later.
