Should be fine, I ran my OEM coolant through freezing times of the year without a problem!
You should check the freezing point of the coolant. I don't know what the concentration of antifreeze is for Canadian cars, but the Owner's Guide for US cars says the factory concentration is 50/50. The spec for that concentration does not protect you to -40 degrees.

+1
interesting you picked -40*F, because i mostly see -34*F for a 50/50
mixture (with distilled water) when searching for our coolant specs using
CVC-7-A and/or WSS-M97B51-A1.
It's gonna take a while for it to freeze because the engine's mass. So it would have to stay at -40 for a couple of days... If the temperature dips to -40 for a couple of hours at night it's gonna be no problem even if the coolant is only good to say -35...
Get autostart, set to start car every 4 hours automatically, LOL
or engine block heater would be the typical fix for people regularly in that kind of climate
