Default Need Your Help

I am finally done with the GTO and evryone on their forums. I want to build my new 2012 mustang gt so that i can rape any 6.0 liter GTO I see on the street. The 6.0 liter is a beast but I know the new 5.0 Mustangs are incredibly built and can do it. I just need your help in telling me what mods I need to do it. I know the basic mods would be a tune andless restricting exhaust. What LT headers are you guys using, brand and size? I was thinking about 1 3/4 because I want the low end torque I just don;t know any good "Mustang" brands. Help me get my mod list going. Also I would love to hear any stories of you guys coming up against a 6.0 l GTO. Thanks and I am glad to be a part of the Mustang family. I hope Ford treats me better than GM did.

Welcome to the family. You've come to the right place! American Muscle is a great vendor who sponsors the boards and I've used them personally for years. They can walk you through many questions over the phone.

Personally, I've beat 1 GTO and ran even with one other that I ran into in my 2006 which was bolt ons (CAI, tune, 4.10 gears).

Now Im in a 2010 (same motor) and just got SC'd. I tried to get a GTO to bite yesterday but he wasnt having any of it. I think stock GTO's I could easily take them. I've been blowin everything else away (camaros, nissan 350 and 370s, one toyota that appeared heavily modded, WRXs and STI's...) Given a stock 5.0 has just a little less HP then my 4.6 but a better suspension, I'd recommend driving a stock one first before modding. Probably first upgrades would be CAI and tune. Stock exhaust breathes pretty well so you could get into shorties if you want...but there's still plenty of juice to be unlocked just with a tune.

If I was able to beat one with my 06 and bolt ons, then absolutely a 11 or 12 would.

One of my buddies who is also a mod on here has a 6.0 LS2 GTO, we havent had the chance to line them up just yet but plan on doing it in the near future.

His mods: tune, with DR's

mine are in my sig.

We've pretty much come to the conclusion that he would take me from a stop, and I would take him from a roll. We'll see what happens when we line them up.

Most of the GTO's in my area are lightly modded, I've yet to see one with more then basic bolts on's, the cars are rare enough to see on your own, so it shouldn't be too hard to take most of them that you come up against on the street.

Any reason why your fed up with the guys on the GTO forums? just curious..

edit: check out the 5.0 section man, there is plenty of discussion on mods there.

GTOs are old and outdated, For the 5.0: Lethal Performance tune, CAI, stainless works LTs, stainless xpipe, & 3.73 should get you in the very low 12s or probably a high 11. If that doesn't do it for you, go with some type of forced induction like centrifugal or whipple and you will be doing 11s all day or a high 10 with a super aggressive tune.

The GM LS1 and 2 motors are quick, but they are old and outdated pushrod anchors, with that being said, install a Livernoise cam, heads, 4.10 and a good dyno tune will get you in the 11s but, you will have a rough idle and limited driveability due to the 600+ lift cam, probably bend a valve in time and also who the hell wants to drive an australian made, kangaroo sh*ting GTO, Tell your GTO driving buddys to buy a vette or a Camaro...at least it's made in north america.

Welcome to the Mustang forums where Mustangs rule!

I saw your thread on the LS1 forum, and I don't quite understand why you've gone from LOVING the GTO, to thinking that it is basically a piece of crap, and from how you talk, hating every person that drives a GTO, and modding your new mustang with the sole intent to beat any GTO you meet at a street light. All with in a month.

Sure, you had a bad buying experience, that sucks. Thank you for posting that thread, I found it informative, and I will definitely steer clear of that dealership. GM, from what you said, did a good job in fixing the issues you had. What makes you think Ford is going to do any better for you when you have an issue with your mustang? So, that leaves, what? A few middle aged men that you let get under your skin for something they said over the internet? Anyways, my point is, I hope you didn't off that GTO because of what they said on the forum. I love mine. I love working on it almost as much as I love driving it, and I hope you don't lump every GTO owner into one category because a few of them didn't like your jeers thread. And just so you know, you're going to find that issue with ANY forum you are on. Some people just like to talk a lot of crap. Enjoy your new mustang. I hope that nothing goes wrong with it during your ownership though, for the car's sake. And hopefully we never run into each other on the streets.

Wow, you're clever! You're right, I did. I didn't come on here to "grind his axe" as you say. I've seen people from other forums do it on LS1 all the time to talk crap. I came here because: a) they locked his thread so I couldn't post on it, and b) I wanted to let him know that not all of us felt the same way that some of those guys did.
