Default Shaker 500 Speaker Upgrades

Hello, I am a new user to this website and have some questions about my car's speakers. I have a 2005 Mustang GT with a Shaker 500 audio system. I have heard there are 8 speakers in it total, i'm wondering how many are actually replaceable. I'm thinking of upgrading all of them because in my opinion the system is trash, and I have ordered some 6x8 Kicker DS68 for the rear and I am wondering how many more I can upgrade. Thanks, Tyson

You can replace all of them, but upgrading the head unit will really wake up the stock speakers.

I'm planning on doing subs and a head unit also. Is there any particular order I should do it in, since I won't be getting everything all at once?

I have the Shaker 1000. I had a Kicker amp and 2 Kicker CVR 12" subs for some extra bass, but I got rid of that. Switched out the head unit for a Pioneer. I have the Avic-x930bt in there now. Just by switching head units, it makes the factory system so much better. The highs are nice and clear, and nobody believes that I have factory subs in the trunk. I was originally going to change all the speakers out, but I'm quite satisfied with the way it sounds now.

If you were planning on changing head units, I would do that before replacing all the speakers. Since you only have the Shaker 500, you will probably want to add subs in the trunk for some bass.

I would take his advice, do the head unit first. Then an amp with subs in the back. I have the shaker 500 system as well. I have two complaints, no XM and not enough bass in the back. Both of which will be solved next weekend

Hmm...my 2010 the speakers were actually 5x7 on the rear deck and in the doors on the shaker 500. I replaced the stockers with Focals and sound quality is much improved but I also agree with everyone else that the best way to upgrade your sound is to swap out the stock head unit. Best thing I ever did in my explorer. I'd like to do it in the mustang but it's all one integrated unit and the aftermarket solutions I've seen so far I've not been terribly pleased with the appearance.

look into the kicker/shelby 8" subs for the door. Plug and play exact fit and sound great
