Question SCT X3 Question

Easy question... I hope. I am selling my 08 Mustang and plan to remove the Ford Racing CAI, reinstall the stock air box and return the car to stock tune using my SCT X3 3000. What do I need to do, other than reloading the stock tune, to assure that my SCT X3 stays unlocked so I can resell it? Thanks.

I've done this before, lets see if I remember correctly. I believe you return the car to stock, then plug it in to the computer and run the program as if you were going to add a new tune to the tuner. Instead, there should be an option to unlock the tuner, and it should tell you how many unlocks are left. I believe that is the way it is done.

It will unlock automatically when the user hooks it up to their car and the tuner "uploads" the stock tune. I say upload because when you are sending the aftermarket tune to the car, the tuner says it is "downloading", so moving the stock tune from the car to the tuner is "uploading"

when i switched the sct to another vehicle all i did is return the first one back to stock. loaded the new tunes for new car and installed.. i believe simply returning car to stock unlocks the tuner.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds easy enough. I Just wanted to make sure I did it correctly so there will be no issues when I sell it.

retuning a car to stock does not unlock it. It's the uploading from the new car that unlocks it I have returned my car to stock at least once a year because it never passes with my cai. It continues to say it has 5 unlocks available.

that could be right,, either way once car one is returned to stock the tuner can be sold and used on another car.

From SCT's website:
http://www.sctflash.com/support/inde...cleid=24&nav=0
So I guess you just return it to stock.

You're talking about something else with the unlocks.

The main unlock that is being referenced here is "divorcing" the SCT from the car that it was used on. Set the car back to stock and the SCT is not "locked" to that car any longer and can be used on another car.

The unlock you are referring to has to do with once you divorce it from the original car you have 5 more times that you can "unlock" it from a car and let it "lock" to a new car. When you return your car to stock and then reload a tune it doesn't affect that counter because it has worked with and locked to your car before.

Let someone else load a tune to their car with it though after you unlock from your car for testing and you will show 4 unlocks. Of course now it can't lock to your car again unless it is "unlocked" from the second car by that one going back to stock.
