Almost anything should sound better than stock.

I think one thing that gets overlooked when comparing speaker brands is that they all have different levels within brands. Entry level to their top level.

You can also get cheap speakers to sound better by sound deadening panels and taking care of any rattling or loose interior pieces.

Sorry for what seems like a double post but I can't figure out how to edit posts in the mobile view.

The advantage to ordering from crutchfield is that they will include installation instructions and any necessary harnesses.

I think the front speakers are easier to replace than the back speakers. So much more room to work and easier to take off the door panel than basically stripping the interior from the front seats back to lift off the rear deck panel and then screwing the speaker down front the top under the rear window. Although I haven't done my own or any other s197 for speakers, I'm just assuming it's just like almost every other coupe out there.

chain1, there's a guy on youtube who has step by step instructions for speaker replacement on the s197. They're well made videos!

I've replaced all my stock all the way around. They were more pricey, but I put in Focals and they frakkin ROCK. The sound was totally transformed and better than any system I've ever heard. Someone said the rears are worse to do because of the tight quarters but it's worth the savings to DYI.

I love my Kenwood DNX6160 HU but that's a little pricey if you're looking to trade in soon.

Edit: WTF! Why was my sig removed? It's within the acceptable size. I think Troy McClure might want to take a second look(446 x 250 is too big? lol).

I'm definitely doing it myself. And yea, the rears looked terrible in the video. The two back screws require either a "impossible short screwdriver" or a bit and pliers.

Just another excuse to grow my tool collection.

Baker, I'm not looking for spending a good chunk of change on the head unit since I am still trying to save up. I'm trying to keep the head unit itself below 120 bucks.

An offset screwdriver will help with the back screws or if you have a power drill an offset drive adapter. Both should be under $20 if not less than $10. Just be careful with the torque on the drill when the screw is all the way in, it is possible the drill will spin around the driver and crack the glass.
