Definately aftermarket seat heaters. Put some in my car a few weeks ago and love them.
Wired mine to unused fuse #13, it's only powered when the key is on. Used one of these add a fuse things from AutoZone, hooked both power wires to it, ground wires to screws under kick panels. The heater kit also comes with inline fuses, might want to look under the seats and see if he used them.

because the phrase is beat you like a red headed step child. and my guess is the same, I did not come across any wires under the dash or near the smart junction that I didn't know. I have seen these little black boxes under the seats, when I remove the seats I can get an idea what the wiring looks like and figure it out from there.

Compliment it with a coffee maker powered by engine heat...

so we cut out the inside of the passenger seat, make the cushion flip open like in the fast and the furious in Doms RX7, inside we have a heating element and we keep some donuts in there. we take the center console and extend it to reach the back seat, turn that into a cooler with ice. I dont drink coffee, but we can gut the center dash and put in a coffee maker or a soda dispensar, relocated the radio to the glove box. wheres xihibit when you need him...
