Default Wheel Steering Stop

I want to upgrade my wheels from stock 17" to 18x8.5 Front and 18x9.5 rear and I saw on the Ford site that I may need something called a Steering Stop. Is that necessary and is that something that's easy to install??

I found many posts on this and no clear instructions
I've searched a number of forums and some post say "you don't need it" some say "install it is you do hard turns"

Not sure what determines if you need it or not, but I have a GT that came from the factory with 17" rims. I put 18x9 upfront with a 255 tire and I dont have any problems.

i'm sure it depends on the wheels and maybe some varience in production precision if they are needed in the first place.

so first off check/try if you need them anyways.

i went from factory 17s to oem 18s, bought the stops but didn't need them, still in my console.

putting them in will reqire some work by you or some $$s for a shop.

BUT i know there are aftermarket stops available that don't require taking the steering apart, they slip over the inner tie somehow. how about these http://www.americanmuscle.com/steeri...0-install.html
