Default best CAI's?

I am in the market for getting a new CAI for my 06 gt.

Currently deciding between the Roush or K&N from AM. Anyone have suggestions, and which one people have had good experience with?

Looking to improve the HP and gas mileage with not too expensive of a mod.
thanks for any help!!

Steeda and C&L have been looked at as the best for performance gains but the Airraid Race recently seems to be the better option. JLT makes a good CAI as well. Just be sure to go with a CAI that requires a tune. K&N is not really the best choice, unless you find it visually appealing. Same goes for the Ford Racing CAI.

I personally purchased a Series II JLT CAI and I love it. Definitely a great mod and I (as well as 99% of the members of MF) suggest the CAI/tune as the first performance mod.

Tyler,

Both the guys that replied above are headed the right direction, for sure! The Airaid Race CAI and the JLT Series II and III intakes are the best out there in terms of performance, fitment and quality. Both companies stand behind their product and focus solely on making the best CAI's available for late-model Mustangs.

We've used the Airaid intakes on multiple project cars and bolt-on build-ups (2011 V6, 2007 GT), as well as JLT intakes (2012 GT "Project Blackout") and have had nothing but awesome results! The Airaid and JLT Series III intakes are both roto-moulded plastic and use plastic MAF housings and high flow filters to keep temperatures down and eliminate heat soak. This is huge on summer days and keeps you away from detonation and makes you the most power possible.

Paired with a good Bama custom tune, you'll notice an easy 28-32RWHP on 93 octane with your 3V motor. The throttle response, automatic shift patterns, variable cam, free tunes for life are all worth every penny!

If you have any more questions, want to see dyno results, or just want to talk to a Bama tuning specialist about your car and what they recommend, feel free to hit them up any time at the Bama Direct number/hours in my signature below.

Good luck! Whatever you choose, just make sure you go with a good quality tuner that stands behind their work.

Airaid is the company that makes the Roush CAI. If you get a stand alone CAI without a custom tune, do not expect much performance gain. I have an Airaid CAI only felt minimal performance gain without the custom tune, maybe (3-5) HP in higher RPM range. However, I felt a huge difference once I uploaded my custom tunes!!

No one uses the search section any more, might as well get rid of it.

There is no "best". All of the tune required CAI's are equivalent in performance. What makes the power is the tune so choose the tune more prudently than you do the CAI. The tune is about 75-80% of the power gainer for the combo. A stand-alone CAI is near worthless and even the no-tune required CAI's have been knownn to throw codes for running lean.

Choose a CAI by what suits your eyes and wallet.

We offer a great CAI/Tune that have seen gains upto 38HP and 30ft lbs of torque:

Very popular option among consumers on the boards. You can't go wrong with an American Made product by an American Made company!

Let me know if I can help you out with pricing or provide you with any additional support.

Best Regards,

TJ

@madstang40: Actually i do know how to use the search engine, i just wanted to become interactive with the forum and start a conversation regarding something i was interested in doing with my car. Sorry that offends you. I guess it is just better if nobody posts anything that has EVER been posted on the forum before, as to not upset this awesome member.

To everyone else, thank you for all the help. I initially wanted to just get the CAI for starters because i wanted to increase the performance and mpg, but keep the cost down. It's sounding that it is sort of a waste of money though, and a much better value alongside a tune. Sounds like that is the direction i will be going, hopefully on my next bonus!

Thanks again everyone.
