Thanks for all the advice. I have an aftermarket throttlebody in there, and the problem was there before the throttlebody change so I know that didn't cause it. There's no OD light on the dash. When I said it goes up very slow in rev's, I meant that once I hit forty, it immediately drops down. It essentially locks into the 1200 rpm range and refuses to move. The speed goes up painfully slowly as well. Occasionally, if I tap the brake lightly it will disengage whatever is holding the rpm's back so that if I hit the gas relatively hard it will go normally until I let up, then it locks back into the 1200 range. Is there any weird chance that someone could have limited it to 40? So that it just refuses to go faster without quite a bit of coaxing? I bought it used. Thanks again for all of the help.

It sounds like something is keeping the tranny in 5th once it gets there. I'm not familiar with the auto trannys in the S197's so I can't say but I suspect a sensor problem. I'll look over the wiring duagrams.

I see a Digital Transmission Range (DTR) sensor and a whole bunch of things that could be related but I'd be guessing. If you can find a Ford dealership that has a good tranny tech, he'd be the guy I'd talk to.

No hassle. It was a learning experience. I learned that I don't know jack about the tranny controls.

And that after going 7 months without driving anything that has an automatic transmission, it can actually be difficult NOT to drive a 5 speed lol

There is a button on the shifter..it's chrome and on the right edge...by your pinky.

Press that and it will keep you out of 5th. Press it again when you hit 60mph.

I didn't recall the 05-09's having an OD lockout button but I just checked my wife's 06'. Sure enough...

I gave it a shot with the OD off and it still locked in, but at around 1800 rather than 1200 rpm's
