Default 2005 Mustang GT advice needed

I have a 2005 Mustang GT, loaded, with 140k miles on it. It is my daily driver and I drive about 100 miles each day. Last week the cars engine seized. There was a loud tapping sound for about a week prior. It is at a shop now and they quoted $4,300 to replace the engine. I believe its too much to spend on a car with 140k. How much do you think a car like this is worth? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated?

Purchase a used engine and replace it? Or buy a new short block and rebuild everything?

The big question is can you do the work yourself or not.

Another 2005 GT would put you about $12k - $13k in the hole and you wouldn't get anything worth a damn for $4300 so I'd plop a new engine in.

I'm curious what caused it to seize. We have a number of members with over 140k miles and a few with over 200k.

What was your first clue?!?!
Too late now...
Any oil/water left in the engine?

Anyway, a used mill from a salvage yard would be the most cost efficient solution...

a brand new engine for $4300???
That's a deal, especially if it includes labor. These 4.6's cost Ford about $10,000 when they had to replace my engine when it was almost new.

Well its too late now isn't it? Go ahead and fix it for $4300. Thats a fair price and pretty much around what I paid to rebuild a engine.
