Default Cleaned Throttle Body with Pics

Hey Everyone,

So one of the things on my list of "things to do" was to clean my throttle body and MAF Sensor. This is not a tutorial but before/after pictures for people to see for informative use. I got the instructions on how to do so from other threads on here.

Tools Needed:
5/16th socket wrench
T20 wrench
Flat head screwdriver
CRC Throttle Body and Air-Intake Cleaner
CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner
Old clean rags

Time Needed: About 1 hour

Patience Needed: Medium

My Mustang is a 2007 with about 74,000 miles on it. Lately, it has had hesitation when accelerating. It has also had poor MPG. On a recent road trip I was getting about 22 MPG highway average. After cleaning the throttle body and MAF sensor I noticed immediately the increase in acceleration; it was like a brand new car. Secondly, the MPG improved. On a small road trip I got about 28 MPG highway average. Below are the before and after pictures.

Now at this point my Dad suggested I do his throttle body and MAF sensor since his Mustang is a 2006 with about 94,000 miles on it. It too suffers from hesitation when accelerating and poor MPG. His was really hard to clean. I actually had to let the cleaner sit in there for a few minutes to loosen things up. It was so gunky that the butterfly valve seemed sticky when opening and closing it with my hands. Here are the before/after pictures.

That's what happens when you pump all the crankcase vent gases back into your engine...damn emission control!

Is that why there is a small tube attached to the air inlet? It has a green tab on the end?

Here are the sources, part of the reason we run oil-catch-cans...especially on the supercharged engines, otherwise your inter-cooler will look like that.

Wow, thought mine was dirty when I cleaned it a few months ago after just 30,000 miles. Can't wait till JLT comes out with a direct fit oil separator for our 4.0 v6's, way to much oil getting in our throttle bodies on these cars.
