Default 93 tune question

I live in Texas where the highest octane is 91, I want to run my Brentspeed 93 tune. Can I safely put 104 octane boost and be in the safe range for the engine to run

I asked Bama this when the best I could get was 91 and they said not a good idea and they would not recommend it and that was on my 06GT with a CAI...

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but where do you live in Texas that you can't get 93? I travel all around Texas and have always been able to get 93 octane.

I had no idea!, I don't get to deep west Texas much and when I am it's in rental cars and I guess I never noticed. I guess you learn something new everyday. Sorry that would suck not to have 93. I did a little research and see
"El Paso's at high altitude... the rarified air at higher altitudes reduces need for high octane as fuel/air mix is naturally less energetic and so won't pre-ignite, everything else being same. 93 octane is not needed so it's common in many high altitude cities to not sell higher octane fuels."

If all you have is 91, then I would just run the 91 tune. Better to be safe than have something go wrong. The tuner however can hold 3 tunes so just keep it in your trunk and it's easy to flash on the go if you do run across 93 and feel the need to use it.

Fuel additives like octane booster have been known to cause problems with the S197 so I'd advise against it.

Thanks for the information, I will stay away from them. Will keep running 91 tune.

grr. my area has 92 octane. I hate having to run the 91 octane when you can get some pretty decent gains out of 93 octane tunes.

but no - I would not run octane booster and run a higher octane tune.

IMO, there really isn't as much difference in performance between the 91 and 93 octane tunes due to the octane as it is due to other parameters. I've seen lower octane tunes that can run circles around higher octane tunes due to how the tune is written and how they adjust those parameters. My custom 87 tune puts my stock 87 tune to shame.
