rear end slop
#11
Here's an update for this thread. I think I'm done with this.
I called moser, currie, brenspeed, rwr motorsports in denver, and the shop that put my gears in. I explained the 5/16" spin in the flange to them. They know it's a ford 8.8 lsd and not some locker rear end.
Moser, currie, brenspeed, and the local shop that did my gears both said this amount of slop is not necessarily problematic. Only RWR told me it's a problem.
While I'm not 100% satisfied and still would like to compare with a couple other cars with the same rear and gearset I'm rapidly approaching the give exactly zero ****s stage about this now.

Thanks for the vids. Pretty much exactly like mine is. You've tracked your car and its held together so far. I'm thinking thats a good sign.
It does amaze me that you can ask a bunch of different driveline guys the same question and end up with different answers.
Thanks for putting my fears to rest.

I wasn't sure if having the tires on the ramps would make a difference, so i jacked it up a little by the pumkin. I did one video with the tires on the ramps and it didn't seem to matter. Emergency brake was on in all videos.
Oh, I punished this rear end at the track doing a 5k clutch dump and spinning the drag radials all through 1st gear. I'll never forget the sound of a M&H 275/50/17 drag radial screaming bloody murder. Not my finest hour.
I know I'll get this question so...... the drive shaft is the Denny's 3 inch steel shaft and they don't make it anymore, at least I don't think they do. I think it's time to upgrade to an aluminum shaft with cv joint.
