Default Auto Transmission Problem - Advice?

Hello All,

My 05 GT is making a "whining/grinding" noise anytime I let off the gas. It is louder at slower speeds. At first, I thought the sound was coming from the brakes; like the pads were wore down and grinding against the rotor, but that wasn't it. But it's the same kind of sound. It only does it when I let off the gas; not when I accelerate (or I can't hear it). There is no slipping or clunking when the trans is shifting gears. This started to happen when I was sitting at a light. I let it move forward on its own, and when I gave it a little gas, I felt a little slip and then it caught. That's when the noise started. But it has not slipped since.

Does this sound like I am going to need to get the tranny replaced/rebuilt or is there something else I can possibly do to fix this?

If I do need to replace it, does anyone have a ballpark price as to what it will cost?

Thanks

Have you checked your fluid level in the trans yet? There is no dipstick you have to check from under neath.

I have not checked it. Is that just a matter of filling it until it overflows? Do I need an adapter for it?

Thanks!

Get a plastic bottle (like a generic ketchup bottle) and put some ATF in it and a piece of clear plastic hose on the snout of the bottle. Squeeze fluid in the fill plug opening of the transmission pan, just till it starts to drip out.
