Default Auto trans issues?!

My auto trans has been acting real funny lately, its always shifted hard. Even before the tune. But now it shifts even harder lately, up and down. Sometimes when I come to a stop it will stay around 1200 rpms and then drop down to around 750 all of a sudden. Also when I'm cruising around 40 it feels like the car shifts up and down constantly. There is also a weird smell after shutting the car off. And thats only from driving 10 minutes home from work. Just replaced the tps a few days ago thinking that may be it. But nope. Didn't fix a thing.

Does anyone know what could be going on? I was gonna go out and check the trans fluid but im sure everyone knows all about that....Really regretting not buying a manual at the moment.

I have a 5 speed manual. On occassion, I experience the RPM increasing up to 1,000 RPM when shifting into neutral and coming to a stop. I noticed the RPM will go back down, after a few seconds or so. I cleaned the throttle body and the MAF sensor and it definitely helped!
