Default Private sale or dealership?

Would you be more inclined buying from a private seller or dealer?

I'm thinking of looking at this car tomorrow.

http://skagit.craigslist.org/cto/3216678227.html

What do you all think? He's asking $28k. I'm thinking when he bought the car, with all those goodies, that car was $34-35k?

I'm thinking of offering $25k, after I have a mechanic take a look at it.

Thanks!

pretty nicely optioned mustang. premiums with brembos were a mid 30s setup, like you stated. looks like he has an aftermarket doubledin set up too (or is that factory? looks good enough to fool me,since I haven't seen the factory nav). for all we know it could have other options too, it was rare people would want premium, brembo package etc and not some of the others.

28 is slightly high. I would want a little more of a deal, too.

I would want it thoroughly inspected too, and I'd want to know if it was ever tuned or tampered with .. how you'd get that confirmed, I dunno.

28K is pretty good.. I'd be happy with 27K.. If I were selling I wouldn't go for 25K though..

I bought mine via private sale. The one advantage is that you pay way less in taxes. I would have paid close to $900 in taxes if I bought it from a dealer. Private sale I paid like $125. That's at least how it is in IL.

HA!

I didn't even see that!

But, doesn't that come on when you first start the car?

Looks like he just has the key turned partially and doesn't have it running to show the radio and gauges.

RPM's aren't at idle, so it would be on in the 2nd position without the car running. Should be fine.

Looks clean, try to get him a bit lower though.

USAA Car Buying sets a brand new 13 with no options for 27k, and with just trak pack (comes with brembos, 3.73s, etc) and recaros it was $31k. Not including tax/title... so definitely wouldn't even pay anywhere near 28k for a 2011.

How can you compare a stripper model to a premium model? I'll give it the two years but it still has average to less than average mileage.. Trade in is still high.. If you can find a single GT premium with under 15K miles for under 26K that would be a deal.. I could only find one in all of the US for under 27K..

A base model 11 GT, that's a different story..
