Default Help with two problems

I haven't been on here as regularly as I usually am because of my very busy school schedule (15 units this semester). I have been experiencing a problem for about a month and a half now, maybe you guys can help me. Whenever I begin to back up and tilt the steering wheel slightly as I'm driving in reverse, I hear some kind of metal clanking sound. That's the best way I can describe the sound. It seems to come from the front driver's side wheel well. Possibly from the passenger side as well, but the driver's side is the one I can actually hear (for obvious reasons). I haven't experienced any effects on driving, but hearing that sound bothers me. Any idea what it might be?

Second problem is that my battery is finally giving out. Not so much that I need help figuring this one out, but more so to get some recommendations for a new battery. Any type you'd recommend?

I have a similar metal clanking sound that sounds like it's coming from the same area. It's hard to explain what it sounds like, but it happens when I'm stopped or driving really slow (in reverse as well). I had it when the car was new and it has recently come back. I'm going to try and track it down next weekend.

I'm rocking a Optima Yellow Top battery. It seems like a great battery even though I'm on my second one. My first one crapped out when my alternator took a dump, but Optima replaced it no questions asked at my local auto parts store. If you get an Optima, do not attempt to recharge it with a fast charger! Optimas have to be charged with a trickle charger.

Strut mount clunk?

Or is it a constant noise?

As far as the battery goes, I bit the bullet and got a red top optima.(before i got this car) After selling the previous car, I transferred the battery over to the stang. I had the same optima for 6 years now, and checked it 2 months ago, still pushing out 1100 CCA.

Optima batteries = win

As for battery, Interstate is best bang for the buck.

If you track it down, let me know what you find! I may try taking a look on Thursday and I'll let you know if I find something as well.

I'm not sure what the sound is, but it does sound like a clunk. And it is not a constant noise. I mostly hear it as I'm turning the wheel while backing up. It's always a few clunks the more I turn the wheels.

Hi Antonio323,

Your dealership is going to be the best resource for both of your concerns. Ford certified techs are in the ideal position to diagnose the metal clanking sound you're hearing and they can replace your battery while they're at it.

We have a few coupons available for batteries (or future service appointments) here: http://owner.ford.com/servlet/Conten...iceCouponsPage With your savings, you can buy some extra books for school!

Feel free to reach out to me via PM if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Sounds like a brake issue IMO but you didn't provide enough info to help diagnose...

Interstate make s a very good battery. Optima's (if you chose the right battery for the application) are very good but they cost more money than they're worth. Most of the time, Sears has batteries that are made to high standards by the major battery manufacturers.
