If you live in the midwest, or any where that generates a lot of snow in the winter - I would do 6 monthes on/6 monthes off. Keep your current car, or buy a beater for the winter. I'm turning 20 and I priced the 06 v6 and GT... I think the best quotes I got were around 1600 for 6 monthes with the GT (that includes about $80 in discounts for good record etc). Basically you'll probably be paying upwards of 280/month... assuming the car is under your name. If not, try to get it under your parents name; it'll be a fraction of the price. The reason I went with putting it under my name, and having my parents co-sign is so I can start exercizing my credit.

Thanks for that info Mike65. I'll be transferring to San Diego soon, and that gives me a prety good estimate of what to expect insurance wise.

I live in NC and I am 22 yrs old, I just bought a 06 mustang gt that had been on order 4 months. I priced just about every insurance company around. I ended up going with gieco and got a customized policy which was better than all the other insurance companies were giving me, for 200 bucks cheaper. Total price for 6 months is 582. I was able to get good driver discount but that was it. Hope this helps.
