Hey guys i dont want to take up too much of anyone's time. I've had my 13' 5.0 since june 29th and the OD reads 2400 with an oil life of 72%

I'm getting ready to take it on a trip this friday 15 hours total, 7.5 one way

If it were you would you change your oil out first? Or wait until it gets into the 5-7k area?

Well, I believe ford still stays you can do 7500 miles on an oil change. Just depends if you're comfortable doing that or not

If it were my car I'd change the oil before the trip.

What I think I'd do would be to change the oil filter now and only top it off to replace the half quart or so that you lose.

You'll have 3500 or so on the car when you get back, and I'd save the full change for then.

I normally go about 5000 miles on full synthetic (I use Motorcraft 5W30) because my driving falls into the "severe service" category on several counts.

My philosophy is not to do any maintenance a few days before a trip. If something gets fouled up, you might not have time to correct it. If it's fine now, leave it alone. And have a good trip!

Meh, if it's really close to that 5k mark prior to a trip, I'll get it done prior. If it looks like it'll go over that 5k mark by a few hundred miles by the time I get back, I'll take care of it after my return.

On a separate note, why do you have to change your motor oil so soon after initial purchase of a new car? I assume it's due to seepage?

I would change when I returned.
Your new engine will be worked more on the trip than I has been
to date. I would want fresh fluid after the trip to remove possible
shaving that running your engine for long periods of time could produce.
