Default Exhaust Tone

Hey All,
So i just bought my first mustang gt. its an '05. It has JBA headers and an aftermarket x-pipe with stock mufflers. It has a higher, raspy tone. which i dont prefer. What can make a 4.6 have a deep rumble. thanks

Welcome! That x pipe is the reason you are getting that higher raspy tone, changing that out to an H-pipe will really help. I was in the same situation as you, I also have JBA headers and had a BBK x pipe which I did not like at all. I changed it for the factory H pipe with magnaflow mufflers and loved the sound. I will see if I can get a sound clip.

There is a video of my exhaust tone with JBA shorties and magnaflow exhaust with the stock H-pipe. http://www.ridepros.com/vehicles/pro...ng-gt-showcase

another option is to change the axle back mufflers to a straight thru design.
most times, a straight thru sounds better than a chambered muffler with an x pipe.

Video sounds good
I may get new axle back or I may get an H pipe. They are JBA Longtibe headers. I checked today

My vote is for a MAC prochamber. Doesn not lose the power an H does and keeps the low rumble of an H. if not more.

I have heard great things about that Prochamber! I am guessing you have no catalytic converters either?

you could get cams! Also I second the mac axlebacks. Mine is camed, xpipe with the Macs and it sounds wicked sweet (sweet ruble at low rpms, all hell breaking loose after 3000)

Put some high flow cats on it and it should eliminate the rasp. Stock mufflers sound pretty good with headers, x and high flow cats IMO.

BUT

If you want deep, Borla Stingers is the only way to go

Be prepared for the drone.

I had borla stingers and high-flow catted H on my GT and I bet it's exactly the sound that you're looking for. Nice deep/throaty note. I have longtubes, o/r x, with stingers on the GT500 and it sounds great as well, but maybe not quite as deep.
