Default Looking For Mustang

Hey guys, new in here, love the site.I am in the market for 2005-2006 model.Prefer the manual trans but willing to go auto.Has to be a V-8.
Looking to buy between now and hope to have one by the time the snow melts.

Was wondering what issues there are or anything in particular i should look for in selecting one of the first models of these retro years. How dependable have they been?

I love all the 2005 and up stangs.Seeing KBB saying the 05's with decent miles should be between 12k and 13k and the 06's about a grand more.So far i haven't had to much luck seeing any going for this.On average the 05's i have seen are around 15k and up unless you wanted a car with 140,000 miles which i don't.I don't think i would want anything with more than 85,000 miles on it.So i am thinking the looking is going to require some patience.

Been on the fence classic versus retro for quite awhile and i always come back to the fact these retro stangs just kill anything out there on style and just crazy aggressive looks.

Thanks all

Welcome to the forum! The used market is doing really well and the prices are a bit inflated. A used 2005 - 2007 Mustang GT in my area run anywhere from $15K - $19K, depending on the mileage. If you are able to get a good deal on a 2007 or 2008, go for it!
The 2005 & 2006 models have some gliches that you definitely need to look out for. I will note the ones that I am familiar with and/or have experienced.

1. Water leak in passenger side of floor board and under Dash - Leak can cause numerous electrical issues and is difficult to fix. (Check under floor mat for dampness and/or musty smell). I have not experienced (knock on wood)
2. Stepper motors going out. My RPM gauge is sometimes off 200-300 RPM. My thermostat gauge does not work if the temp is below 60 degrees.
3. Upper and lower thermostat cracking - V6 related only. I see coolant leaks off and on (made out of plastic)
4. e-brake freezing during winter months. I do not use my e-brake during colder season
5. Slave Cylinder/throw out bearing went out at 65K miles. I had my whole clutch assembly replaced.

I do regular oil changes every 3,000 - 4,000 miles and rotate tires every other oil change. I clean my TB and CAI air filter a couple of times a year. I currently have 69K miles and she seems to be driving just as good as the day I bought her. Dependable and reliable.

Welcome. Check the laundry list of TSB's associated with this S197 model. Kevinmalec hit one of the heavy-duty issues; the water leak TSB.

IMO, you should be able to pick up an '05 or '06 GT in decent shape for the low teens, possibly as low as $10k if you look hard enough. The '07's still have a good # of the TSB issues but not quite as bad so if you can swing the cost of an '07 or '08, all the better.

a good place to look for year models is on the classified of the S197forum.com. prices seem very reasonable and would rather buy from an individual. picture and list of mods are with each car, if you join the forum you can research the owner. probably find cars in your general area

Craigslist.com is another free website where you can locate local private sellers, hence no sales tax. I frequent Craigslist on a daily basis. =-)
