It's not a chip. The SCT X3 is a handheld device that holds custom tunes and will store your stock tune when you upload one of the custom tunes. It also allows you to change a few minor parameters on your own.

On the 5.0, a good custom tune and CAI will net you about 35-40 RWHP. Yes, your dad is correct. Us "older guyz" get it right once in awhile.

As mentioned it actually is a programmer that reprograms your factory PCM with a new tune.

On the '11 you could expect approximately 15-25HP gains from a tune alone.

Let me know if I can help you with an SCT X3 with Steeda custom tunes.

Check out our CAI while you're at it. That will add another 10-15HP.

One of the first mods we tell people to get. Many companies will sell it with a custom tune for you. Look at americanmuscle.com, Brenspeed.com, steeda, Jim, lethal. Read some reviews online to see how people like there tunes from different vendors. Me psonaly, on a naturally aspirated car, I love the bama race tune from American Muscle.

Thanks for your recommendation JDWalton!

OP, check out our Bama SF3 tuners. They come with three custom tunes specifically for your Mustang right off the bat. Then on top of that, you'll be automatically enrolled into our Free Tunes for Life program. This will get you free tune adjustment for any new bolt-on mods in the future. So, when you get a new mid-pipe on your Mustang, all you have to do is contact Bama and they'll hook you up with 3 new custom tunes!

Let me know if you're interested in more info or if you want to talk to a Bama Tuning Specialist directly, you can give one a call @ 888.226.9764.

Hope this helps your decision!

I am running the Steeda Ultimate Induction pack. I am VERY SATISFIED with the performance of my tunes. Very street friendly, driveable, and when called on makes TONS of power. Steeda gets two thumbs up as far as I am concerned. It does everything as promised and more.

Lot's of options here as mentioned and explained. FRPP also has a tune(r) called the Procal. Still trying to decide on one myself but am leaning towards Bama.

The procal is from Ford (FRPP) so it leaves a lot on the table in terms of power and end user tweaking (fewer user accessable parameters than the SCT). Go with the SCT and a reputable aftermarket tuner like one of those already mentioned and you won't regret it.
