15,000 miles and my clutch started slipping. It could be caused by my pal driving it and launching it twice in second gear. the burning clutch smell was really bad.

About 5000 miles later the clutch failed - started slipping in 2nd gear.

The clutch disk blew up by trying to force it into 1st gear going like 40MPH.
Even though the clutch pedal is engaged, (and the engine is disconnected from the clutch) The clutch is still being stun-up by the rear wheels through the drivetrain.
When you downshift, and the clutch is pressed in, you can hear the throwout bearing reving up to rev match, but when you're going like 40MPH, and force into first, the clutch is being over-rev'd till it shreds itself.

YIKES! According to the pic, the clutch is definitely toast.
I've never down shifted into 1st. I've down shifted as low as into 2nd gear, but I typically down shift to 3rd and then go into neutral and brake.

Nah, your clutch should not have failed due to your buddy launching it only twice in 2nd gear. There are people that take their cars to the track on a regular basis with no problems.
Is the car under warranty?

On my 07 GT I was having the clutch replaced at around 35,300 miles.

Not a problem on my 08 since I only have 3,800 miles.

If you're launching in second gear and hooking (lord only knows why anyone whould do that), you can cook a clutch REALLY fast.

oh I agree it should have held out but that's all I can think of apart from maybe the 7500rpm shifting.. the clutch was sticking to the floor pretty bad at high r's. stupid boss intake!

my dealer offered to fix it but I want a spec stage 2+ so i'm having a shop do that next week.

was stinking pretty bad tho on that meltdown. yes it was hooking good that day 100F sticky Pirelli P0.

we just put a cf drive shaft on it and he was testing it to make sure it was fine.. he remembered a comment I made that driving with a 3.73 means I have to start in second all the time for noise, less shifting, etc...

he must have thought that included hole shots too. can't complain because he did a great job on the install and was trying to help.
