Default Contemplating 2013 5.0 or 2007-2009 GT500

Hey guys I've been researching the forums about these two cars and just want some opinions on what y'all would go with. My price range is in the mid twenties and this car will be used as a daily driver. Also it will be taken to the strip occasionally but mostly street use for cruises, meets, ect. Here's what I've come up with.

2013 5.0:
-new car
-looks better in my opinion
-better gas mileage
-probably more reliable since its a newer car with less miles

2007-2009 GT500:
-s/c more mod friendly
-holds value better
-better transmission
-engine can hold more power

These are the main things I'm trying to contemplate, if you can add some more points that would be great.

Thanks Ryne

I faced the same decision and I decided on the new 5.0. Things that won me over: aesthetics, warranty, insurance of raising the car myself and not having the unknowns of how the previous owner treated / maintained the car.

the GT500 is faster and easier to make much faster, too. if that is important to you, weigh on that, heavily

The point you made that the 2013 5.0 looks better is why you should get that car. You buy a car for looks and what makes you happy. Power and mods can always be done later but if I were you I would go with what I truly like the looks of.
I personally liked the gt500s and I bought a 2009. But if you prefer the 2013 because of looks then that is what you should be getting. Money can always be spent on performance later down the road....but money can't make a 2009 gt500 look like a '13 5.0.

Really depends on how expendable your income is.. as you said the GT500 hold its value but with that you're paying more for an older car. If you plan on daily driving either one, go for the 13.. I would have only bought a GT500 if it was a weekend car and garaged most of the time.

If you like modding, get the Shelby! If you do considerable mods to the 5.0, the warranty won't get you far anyhow.

Not sure a mid twenty budget will get a very good version of either but I would go with the 5.0. I have spent some time lately debating and driving both. It really comes down to what you like to do with the car. I like twisties and found the gt500 to be too heavy, so the 5.0 gets my vote. It's not much faster and I personally wouldn't s/c it so the motor wasn't that big of a deal. But if you like drag racing and showing off then the 500 is for you

Ill tell ya, I have my own thread up that is similar, but has some different questions. I want to know where you are finding a 2013 mustang gt or a 2007 gt500 in the mid twenties. I sure cant find one in that range, Im looking at low 30's.

This.. No possible way you're finding a new '13 5.0 or a used Shelby for mid 20s.. High 20s at best.. A stripped down base GT is 27-28K.. A good deal on an 07 GT500 is about the same.. You can grab a used '11 5.0 for low to mid 20s however.

I was faced with the same decision when I bought my GT500 about 2.5 years ago. The 07-09 Shelby will not be as "neat" as the 5.0 in the sense that there aren't all the "bells & whistles" and the interior won't be as plush. However, it is faster, stronger, and more reliable when heavily modded. If you EVER plan on going the forced induction route on the 5.0, do yourself a favor and buy the Shelby. For the money you would spend on a SC kit for the 5.0, you can upgrade the GT500 to make over 700rwhp. Simply put, the Shelby is a better platform to build horsepower with... however the 5.0 might be a better choice for a daily driver.
