Winters Coming: Need a Cover

Winters Coming: Need a Cover
I live in the midwest, so the winters can be rough. Any suggestions on a good cover for an 06? The car will be in the garage 95% of the time, but I'll need something that'll be able to withstand light snow and cold temperatures. Any suggestions?

I suggest doing what I did.
I bought a cover at Walmart...
I know.. sounds tacky.
However - - any cover will start looking VERY nasty after a year of use. regardless of how "good" they are.
You can give upwards over $200 for a "good" cover. which you will want to replace next year because it will look like crap.
OR.. you can buy one at Walmart for $69 for the Best ... (they have 3 choices.. good, better and best)... which is designed to last 5 years but you will probably want to replace it next year anyway.
I bought 2... a good one... and a cheap white one... the cheap one takes up very little room and so I keep it in the back of my trunk for those days I am forced to park under a tree and don't want tree sap all over my car!

Yeah, I was going to do something similar. A buddy of mine who is a vett-fanatic ordered his out of a vett-catalog; but reccomended just going to farm and fleet and getting a 3 ply cover for $80.

My Genuine Ford Mustang cover was rather expensive (about $250), but it fits well and should last quite a long time.
A woman that works at the local DMV office that I pass every day on the way to work had one of the very first Mustangs around here and bought a generic car cover for it. It never fit right and was always kind of poofy in the middle. Within six months or so it had tears in it and she finally quit using it when the holes became too large.
I'm more than happy to pay a little extra for a car cover that fits right and will last a while.

I bought a WeatherShield fitted cover for my 06, and it is quite nice. Repels water very well(almost like Teflon), and dries out well, even in the bag. It's also machine washable and dryable. Expensive, but hopefully it'll last a while. Personally, I don't care how it looks after time passes, as long as it still keeps crap and whatnot off my car.

I bought the Ford one. It is very high quality and fits perfectly. Mine sits in the garage also but i still wanted something to cover it and keep the dust off. I thought the Ford one was pricey but I didn't feel so bad once I took it out of the box and discovered the excelent quality and fit.

I bought a $189 Dust-top cover for the garage, and sometime before next years show season I intend to buy an outdoor cover for weekend events. I bought one of the cheapy's from Walmart first, and was not very happy with the fit - possibly got something different then your region??
My advice is to bite the bullet and get a quality, form fitted cover that won't flap around in the breeze. Checkout cover world (a site sponser here) I actually used my dust-top outside under a highway bridge one night, and a severe storm rolled through with 40-50 mph wind gusts. The formed mirror pockets and a strap connecting both sides underneath was enough to keep it in tact. Could be wrong, but I don't think a generic cover would have held.
Whatever you get - be careful when using it outside below freezing!!! Snow/water turning into ice - and even condensation doing the same thing could spell disaster when you go to pull it off. You'll have to wait for a thaw or be patient with buckets of warm water [:@]

RE: Winters Coming: Need a Cover
That's a good point about the ice sowaxeman. Looks like I may be going to Iceland from here and I won't have a garage. Looking into covers but I think there are more negatives than positives. Now don't miss-understand...Iceland average winter temp is about 32 degrees F, so it's not that cold (relatively speaking depending on where you are from). Winters in Omaha, Nebraska are worse, trust me, lived in both places already. O.K., back on topic. It's pretty windy in Iceland most of the time and then with the snow and ice during the winter I'm worried about the cover, even a top of the line cover, shifting against the body of the car. Thinking that after two winters of this, the outcome may not be good. I think that I'd have better luck not using one and just being careful when removing snow off the body. Also, a bit off topic, does De-Icer sprays for the windows affect body paint? Hate scraping ice as it can scratch the windows.

RE: Winters Coming: Need a Cover
I am looking to by the best car cover possible for a 2005 mustang GT without a spoiler. I have been told to go with a Weather shield. Do you agree or disagree?
The car will unfortuantly be outside all winter and only uncovered for those cold crisp sunny days; inorder to see what this pony can do with more oxygen shoved down its throat.
Do you know of a group buy for this cover?
Or if you have bought one what was the best price you found and from where?
Thank you in advance for your help to keep this work of art looking like new.
Feel free to respond in this forum or PM me.
With winter coming I am sure that this is on a lot of peoples minds!!
