Thats pretty standard fare about insurance. You file against the insurance of the person who hit you.

That being said, doesn't your neck hurt? Yes - Im serious.

A diminished value claim is best when there's substantial damage on a newer car, case in point my wife's XC-90 I mentioned above. We bought it brand new and 6 months later got slammed pretty good, so hard in fact it pushed us into the car in front of us. After finally getting it fixed correctly, which was 4 trips back to the repair place, we then pursued the DVC. We went thru a company that does claims and they did take a decent cut, I want to say around 30%, but we received around $3000 if I recall.

For relatively minor damage I wouldn't do it, more of a pain than it's worth.

Man that's a harsh insurance company. When I had a lady back into the side of my 2013's door it was really bad damage. Her insurance called me really fast and started wanting to cut checks I told them I would be calling my insurance first. They wanted to give me a 1,000 dollar check.

I have Allstate and I filled a claim with them all state went in after her insurance which was state farm. I ended up getting a 2,200 dollar check from State Farm after Allstate went in an handled it. Got my door fixed for 1,100 and got my cat back exhaust lol.

Hey guys I've gotten my car back but clearly my exhaust isn't right either, I think its the midpipe, I checked under the car and I don't see and bends or anything on the pipe, but it must be the pipe no? There's nothing else? The exhaust sits to far in the valance vs the other un hit side

Looks like they clamped the right side muffler too far in...
I think it's just a question of adjustment, no biggy.

I actually fixed it, it looked like this...I took the whole muffler off, the clamp only goes on one way, it's not like you slide it over a pipe and adjust it. The mid pipe sits inside the muffler grove then gets clamped down..it's hard to explain pascal you know what I mean right ? Or maybe not lol

It ended up being almost double, had I taken the check I'd have been on the hook for the balance.

If you're 100% sure of the damage done and costs to repair/replace with stuff you want then go for it, assuming they can cut you a check.
+1 Don't accept money unless it's for the exact cost of repair, meaning you have already had the work done and they are paying you back or, better yet just have insurance pay the repair shop directly.

He is correct, once you accept money, the strings are you are done and cannot come back and claim additional costs/expenses for that incident.

I know what you mean and the factory end pipe (the one going over your rear axle) has an index dot on it so your axle back muffler cut away tube will fit in it but if this get buggered in the event of a crash, you don't have that reference point anymore.
Although I'm more familiar with my generation Stang than yours I still thing it's a matter of adjustments because you didn't get hit all that hard.
Seeing your car on a lift would reveal the whole truth...
