Default Android Torque App Inaccuracy??

I've read on multiple forums and reviews of so many people claiming it's almost dead on accurate even with using the ELM327 BT Adapter, yet I have found mine is not even close to being accurate.

Is there a "proper" way of setting up the app or something for it to work properly or what?

Example.

did 1/4 and 0-60 runs on my way home down back road and used TrackApps and Torque at the same time to do a comparison to see just how far off it was

TrackApps:
0-60: first run 4.4s and second run 4.5s

1/4 runs: both runs 13.0@111-112
(I have compared TrackApps to the Track and it is 0.2-0.3 slower than timeslips)

TorqueApp:
0-60: first run 4.9 and second run 5.0

1/4: first attempt 13.3@111.8 second attempt 13.4@112.4

Will have a lot to do with your phone's hardware.. not all are equal.. and how the app communicates with said hardware. They can't test the app with every variation of hardware running android.

Also, the phone has to be in a certain orientation and can't move.

I find that to be inaccurate also. But then again it shows my car as only having a whopping 45HP! The PID monitoring is dead accurate though.

I found the same thing the PIDs are dead on, the HP part is only remote accurate when stomped on but I had to add every detail ton car setup to get it to get within 30-40hp of what I dyno'd..

I only find the performance tests to be wayyy off but so many claim its the bread and butter and dead accurate... I have an S4 and lots have sworn its accurate but I find it not even remotely accurate

I have torque and dynolicious. I prefer dynolicious but i havent done extensive testing with torque.

Dynolicious is only available for apple products , i use it with an Ipod touch.

Its really hard to get a good accurate run on the street, you need to make sure the surface is good, flat, good weather and preferable sea level, device mounted securely, etc...

these guys testing the 2014 corvette could hardly get it below 5 sec 0-60

chevy claims its a 3.8 0-60 car but that must only be on a track surface or with slicks

their shifting was pretty slow though,, probably lost a half or 1/4 second during the shift

I've never heard of these apps. Does it hook up the same way programmers do with the ELM327 BT Adapter??

the torque app can hook to the elm327 via bluetooth and display RPM etc, error codes

but i belive the apps measure the 1/4 mile and accelleration, top speed, etc by using the G-force meters inside of the phone or ipod, along with GPS

Forgot to mention.. accurate GPS triangulation can take as long as a few minutes on a phone. For example, a map app map will display a large circle around you when you first open it.. then hone in on your position.. this takes about 10-30 seconds.. but it is also using cell tower and/or Wifi data to do it. Without having the wifi/cell data, the GPS alone takes a lot longer..

So.. It may help to have the app open on the phone and wait a few minutes with the app open before the test. It's even more difficult to get accurate GPS (without aid of cell/wireless) when the phone is inside the car. The app doesn't have access to cell tower data.. so it's trying to connect to GPS satellites.. and that's difficult for it do shielded inside the car.

Not all blue tooth OBII code readers are equal with respect to data speed. If you want near real time readings / which may equate to more accuracy you need something like what scantool sells or other higher end providers
