Default Check Engine Light

Ok I am getting a wrench and a check engine light. Whenever I drive the car it does fine and the wrench is off when I first start it but then usually the first time I push on the gas with any degree of get up and go the car goes into what I would call a limp mode and wont even rev until I turn it off and back on again.

I took it to advanced auto the other day and got the codes and I cant remember exact codes but it had to do with the throttle position sensor. I called the guy who used to do all my work before I moved and he said he thinks the TB is just dirty keeping the throttle blade from moving back to the right position.

So my question is, what is the proper way to clean a TB cause I haven't ever cleaned one before. He said just take it off and spray it out with carb cleaner and wipe it out with a clean rag but I don't wanna mess up anything so is there anything else I need to be doing

Its real simple to clean the throttle body, unscrew and remove the rubber intake tube from the throttle body and spray not "carb cleaner" but "throttle body cleaner" in there. you can get it at any auto part store. when I cleaned mine I took off the whole throttle body from the engine and cleaned it thoroughly, I recommend you do that its only like 4 screws, very easy job if you are handy with tools. This is also a good time to change out the air filter if it hasn't been done in a while! BTW, How many miles are you at?

just a axle back exhaust. Its running off of the Gt wiring harness on the was spliced into the 6er harness. Keep in mind this just started I have put a couple thousand on it since the swap and it is using the Gt Computer so I fully believe that isn't the problem.

I am pretty handy with a set of wrenches just the fact that I am very unfamiliar with all the electronics I was just wondering if there was any kind of sensors I could ruin by spraying it down with some cleaner.

I have right around 65K on the GT motor. I was thinking it might have been the alternator going out but the other day it was just giving that one code.

I'd start with a thorough cleaning of the TB.
