underneath?
hi guys.
took me new beauty off the road the weekend...ok underneath is like new except a loada dirt..now i cant live with that..it has to be as good underneath as on top..
i plan to clean it all with soapy water and a sponge.then wipe it all over with an oily rag.the axle is ofc smoothered in rust..will just coating in oil be the best thing to do?
so any guys here as fussy on the underside as i am? i'll post some piccies when i'm all done
cheers rudi

I don't like the looks of the underneath of my car either, but honestly man the only real course of action you can have besides buying stock in WD40 is to go with stainless steel parts. Oil will help to an extent, but like I said to an extent. Rust on the stock parts is pretty inevitable.

I did this, treated with Ospho before coating, I wasn't going to install a Cortex suspension with a rusty axel, it's holding up well.

I don't like the look of mine either. I've tried to clean it up as much as I can, but it's hard as mine is a DD.
Here's an old picture of underneath when I had my 7.5.
And here what she looks like right now. Another forum member suggested I paint the axle, and IMHO it looks way better than the rust that Ford used.

I read that the rust on the axle is by design. Something about how Ford coats it with something cheap and ultimately the rust itself becomes a protective barrier. Me personally, I think that's a load of dookie. And by dookie, I mean ****. I'd say if you're inclined, have the space and more importantly the time, painting the axle isnt that big of a deal. Heck...how about plastidip?

Rust is a barrier. If it really bothers you, lightly sand and then paint with a Rustoleum or some similar paint. Others have done it.
Not driving your car in the rain will NOT prevent this type of surface rust. The moisture in the air is all that's needed to start the oxidation process.

My '07 FX4's rear axle was much like the Mustang's, solid "rust" look .... sprayed it black, paint stuck, looks great three years later. I'll do Mustang's one day soon .... when I get a freee day.
