did i mess up my deck panel? what can/should i do?
I installed it a year ago and did what the AM csr lady told me, which was to clean the area with a bowl of dish soap water, then rinse+dry - then wipe with the alcohol pad, then peel the 3m tape and put the panel on, but since then a couple of people told me that dish washing soap strips away wax and clear coat and with all the water that gets trapped behind the panel, the area is probably rusted as hell now - do you guys think its alright? I don't want to peel it off just to see everything's fine, but I don't want to ignore it and find out couple years from now my whole trunks rusting off, tough choice.

you should be fine. the dish soap isn't the best for car washing but it does not strip the clear coat. the alcohol wipes got rid of the wax if used properly. the water should drain out fairly well depending on where the tape is and how much etc..

Dish soap is good for cleaning contaminants and wax off of the car. Which is what you want so that the 3M tape sticks well. Your clear coat and paint are going to be fine to protect the metal under the decklid panel.
Waxes are not for protecting against rust. They protect the paint and clear coat from UV rays and other environmental junk so that the paint lasts longer. Any paint under the decklid panel is shaded/protected by the panel. You should be in good shape.
