Trying to determine best mods
I have an 06 and an 08 gt (4.6l) and they are mostly stock aside from straight pipe exhaust and cai. I was wondering if the cams from a gt500 same body would fit the 4.6l. i know the gt500 is a 5.4L engine. I dont know too much about engines and what not, but im trying to learn. If anyone has any ideas about what i could do to get the most gains Id appreciate the help. Thanks

I don't think they will fit.
Do you have a tune, that usually makes a very nice difference
Edit
I'm pretty sure the 4.6 is single overhead cam and the 5.4 is dual

Well...
Throttle body
FR Intake Manifold
Headers
Tune
If you already have a CAI and exhaust from the headers back, this would be a good list. Bet you'd see 40HP over stock.
Otherwise, consider driveline upgrades to improve performance, like 3.73 gears and an aluminum driveshaft.

I wouldn't do a throttle body unless you plan on FI. Basically a waste of money if your not pushing some horse power. If you have an auto. Id say gears, cams, torque convertor. If you have the money FI would be the best option. IF you have a standard then cams, headers, and gears.

im thinking about $1500 to start with, so being how its a sohc it should be cheaper to get cams for it then? whats a good cam for good price to get that old school sound...what would taking out the cats do? hurt it or help it? im thinking about turning one into a show car and one into a street/drag car. my 06 is auto and the 08 is manual. But yeah i wanna start with 1500 for now just to see where it would put me, i want something that i can still drive on the street while still taking it to the strip and making some cash.......

For $1500, your best bet would be to start with turning the auto into the drag car. Start with 4.10 gears ($175), driveshaft ($650) and racing slicks/rims with whats left. The autos are great for the strip, can't outshift a computer, just outrun it. This should net you low 13's. It's not the greatest (stock 11+ could still outrun you) until you can divvy up for FI and a forged engine and bigger go fast toys.
The other option would be to get out the wax and polish, get one of them all cleaned up and use the $1500 towards entry fees at shows over the next few years and hope you win some trophies.
The problem with having the best of both worlds is that you will often find yourself flopping too often between "what to buy next" for either car (since they are both operational). I'd say the best thing you can do for yourself is decide which one will be which, then decide which one gets the attention. I'd lean towards dismantling/building the drag car while having fun driving the other one as is...since you're in a position to do just that.
