Default Dash Cam Recommendations

Anyone here using a dashboard camera? I'm in the market for one now and would love to see what you guys got.

I just recently moved into downtown Los Angeles from the Inland Empire and figured I've exponentially increased my likelihood of a collision and encounters with police. As such, I'd like a camera that can record audio and video, preferably at 720p (at least). The ability to swivel/rotate into the cabin would be a major plus. I'd like to stay below $100.

Here are a few I've looked at so far:

I have had good luck with the Genius DVR-FHD590 Full HD Vehicle Video Recorder with 128-Degree Wide Angle and G-Sensor and SanDisk Ultra 32 GB MicroSDHC C10/UHS1 Memory Card with Adapter (SDSDQU-032G-AFFP-A). Total on Amazon was $132.38 and I used free shipping. A friend had one and was real pleased....his info came from another who had it. Most do not include the disc so the price goes up unless you have the disc already.

I just purchased the DVR 0801. Very small foot print so it's not in the way. Did have to buy a $15 mini usb hard wire kit on top of the cam, so I have about $140 into it. Doesn't rotate into the cabin so that might be a killer for you. I wanted something small.

Edit: have to say that ^ that one sounds and looks pretty good also.

Sony Action cam can be found at Best Buy for $139. Comes with multiple mounts and a water proof enclosure. Sort of like Sony's spin on a GoPro. Has an Hdmi connection...will do 1080 HD recording to a memory card and connect to either your iphone or a computer over WIFi.

So what did you end up getting? I've been thinking of getting one as well.

Many dash cam reviews really like this camera. It does great at night and during the day, and is always recording. The system will automatically delete files to make room on the sd card. I havent personally used the camera but if I buy one this will be what I would get.

I haven't decided yet adrian. I'd prefer one that doesn't need to be plugged in the entire time; loose cables are unsightly. So a battery that can hold a charge is a must. I'm afraid that a requirement like that will bump me into the over $100 area though. Gonna have to start my search with must-have features first, then consider the budget second.

I use the GoPro Hero 3 Black and love it. Not under $100, but worth it IMO.

Not sure I would want a dash cam. It might record me breaking traffic laws and be used against me!!!

I do have a go pro that I occasionally use just to record some spirited driving on the twisty country roads around here. But, I don't use it in town where there is traffic and cops.
