I just use a trailer hitch with a removable bike rack.......easy, no damage to the body, plus the hitch might come in handy sometime.
Hidden Hitch on mine. I pull a 4x7 trailer with it once in awhile too. (1200 lbs gross max). I don't think I've ever had more than 500 lbs in there. My paint doesn't get scratched.

I have a bike but no rack for my 'Stang. Like others above me, I'm too afraid to install a rack because I'm afraid of the mounts damaging the paint.

Does this roof mounted rack do well in protecting the paint?

I have a folding bike. It looks goofy as hell, but it fits in my trunk and there's no bike rack to scratch my paint and mess up the aesthetics of an otherwise great looking car.

YMMV

Dahon Folding bikes:

PS - Bromptons are better quality, but they're also about 4 times the price as Dahons.

When the wife is up to riding, this is our choice, plus a trailer behind the Mustang makes for easy transport. The bike rack gets the wheel chair when she needs it.

I also had a Dahon folding bike, but mine was the Dahon Espresso. It's probably the only folding bike Dahon offers that doesn't look like it was meant for clowns. It has the appearance of a normal street bike, but folds and fits very well in the trunk of the stang. I used it to commute to class for 2 years on my older S197; parked about a mile off campus, then rode in. Highly recommended.

The clamps are tight and there is rubber between them and the paint, I don't foresee much, if any damage to the paint.

Without the bike mounts, just the roof rack gives the car a slightly euro look which truth be told I kind of like.
