Default JLT 3 CAI Filter keeps falling off

I've had my JLT 3 CAI for a year now, pictured here.

Three times now the filter has fallen off while driving! When this happens, the car sputters a bit and then shuts off power and locks up. I tried tightening the hose clamp as tight as possible. I tried slightly looser. What can I do to give it better grip and not fall off?? Has anyone else experienced this?

I had the same problem. I ended up fabbing a brace out of some angle iron and put it in the filter box to keep the filter from "sliding" off the tube. It's about 6-8" long, and runs along the edge of the filter element. I used some existing holes to attach it.

Try using T-Bolt clamps.

That stinks....

Not sure how often you wash your car, but maybe try including a "filter check" when you do. This should help prevent that from happening.

Likely more years ago than you've been alive I was a Jet Engine Mechanic for the USAF. I kept a spool of .032" safety wire and I still use it when the need comes up. Can you see a point on the air filter and an appropriate place on the CAI or the air box to wire the two together? That will certainly fix the problem! Otherwise you need to fatten up the CAI tube. I've also found bicycle inner-tube rubber to be handy at times, or, you could simply put a couple of those healthy size rubber bands on the CAI tube before you put the filter on.

Default Try X-Treme Tape

I had the same issue and I used some of this tape my Dad had. It is called X-Treme Tape made out of silicon rubber.

Kind of glad I didn't go with the JLT. Sounds like a pretty serious issue, wonder if the company knows about this? Good luck getting that fixed...

Thanks, but how would that clamp it better than the current method? Both apply force in the same way, circumferential around the tube, right?

No T-Bolt clamps have a much better clamping force hence the reason they come with most turbo kits.

Mine never fell off. I wonder if there is something on the surfaces making it slick.
