Question 2006 Mustang GT Engine Swap?

Hey, so I'm new to mustangforums and dont quite know how to navigate this place. I didnt know if it was proper site etiquette to just start a new thread, so I suppose I will learn.

I've got a bone stock 2006 GT with only 64K on it and Ive been rolling with so many ideas of what i want to do. the mistake ive made in my past cars is ive put a lot of money into things that dont necessarily matter to the performance of the car. So this car with it being such low miles and good condition i wanted to start off the right way. It's the stock 4.6 v8 that should be putting out about 300hp more or less based on what the average GT owner says they have. Its fun and quick as most people here probably know, but it could be a LOT faster. Ive got a buddy with the same car and he put a supercharger and a cam in it and he says he puts out around 415 or so HP at the dyno. He spent probably 6-7000 dollars on that which to me seems like an insane amount for only 115 HP gain. I was thinking about doing an engine swap to the coyote engine. That would be naturally aspirated and produce just the same amount of HP as his supercharged 4.6. I was wondering what someone more experienced thought about this and if anyone has first hand knowledge they wouldnt mind handing down. Any input with be very helpful. Like I said, Im brand new to this site so im sorry if i just asked a question that a lot of people have already put out. Im going to work on navigating through this place more and finding my own answers instead of asking. Thanks for any of the replies I get!

Your friend did not do something right if he only got 115hp. Even a conservative SC can take a GT to 450hp, and a good one to like 550hp.

As far as engine swaps, they are generally a bad idea. The car is designed for the engine that was put into it, not a bigger one. To properly do an engine swap you need to change a whole lot of other stuff under the hood too, and recalibrate a whole bunch of stuff. By the time it is all said and done, you might as well have bought a car that has the engine you want. Just consider the time, energy, and money.

So basically, if you are considering an engine swap you might as well buy a different car.

I agree. honestly u could get a $4000 vortech supercharger, $800 cams and be good for a solid 420-450 hp. That isnt bad. then get some suspension bits to get it to the ground. The 3V 4.6L is a pretty good motor. Apparently they r fairly resilient.

1st thing to note is that he got more than 115HP, the difference has to do with the difference between crank horsepower and wheel horsepower. The stock 05-09 GT averages about 270 wheel horsepower and about 305 at the crank, the 415 number was almost certainly wheel, so a gain of 145HP. But all that said these 4.6 engines will run with 450-500RWHP without having to beef up anything, just slap a supercharger on it. if you want more than you'll have to build up the engine. The coyote 5.0's will do 600 without breaking a sweat with a supercharger...
So, it comes down to what your goal is, a coyote swap will run as much or more than say a whipple kit, and you'd have less power initially, but then you can add a supercharger to the coyote and go up from there. I'd look into doing a GT500 engine swap before a coyote, start with a 4-valve 5.4L motor with a supercharger... should be able to find a few of those in the junkyards ready to go.

Oh okay, thanks for all the replies. I totally agree on the whole cost vs reward thing. Honestly this thing is my daily driver that im still paying for, so to do a whole engine swap it would be like double the price of the car. I've decided to just do either a turbo or supercharger kit. My friend may have gotten a more conservative supercharger as its his daily as well. I really wouldnt be complaining about 415HP at all. I was hoping to make 450, so i guess ill start looking around at superchargers. Any advice on a good one to get to make around 450HP while still being able to drive normally on the streets? or is that asking too much of my car lol

Whipple, Kenne Bell or another good twin screw, not a roots. You will make ~475 rwhp with either one of the kits with the components they come with.

Stay with the 4.6 and build it into the car you want. You'll be much happier in the long run.

Yeah, what Simon says. 475 to the wheels is pretty safe, you can do things to get more power with those blowers (with basically just shorty headers & a throttle body I was just over 500RWHP), but then you're moving into the territory where you could end up stressing the engine too much.

your buddy's 415 is probably rwhp, your 300 is at the crank putting you at around 250rwhp, so in that respect, he almost doubled your hp. worth the money now???????????
