Default DTC P0304

My '06 GT with 130K miles on it suddenly had a check engine light. The car continues to run perfectly.
I connected my code reader and it showed DTC P0304. I believe this is a camshaft position sensor.
Looked in SEARCH and found references to most likely a bad alternator.
Any wisdom for me?

I think you've already found the answer.

I haven't seen anyone post a definitive reason why failing alternators cause these problems, only that all evidence says they do.

my semi-educated guess is that the rectifiers start failing which means the alternator starts putting out more AC noise on its output.

Sounds reasonable.
I have seen countless posts that say when the alternator was replaced, P0340 code went away. Think I'll probable go with the 130 amp PA unit and the upgraded power wire kit.

A P0304 is a Cylinder 4 Misfire detected. any P0300-P0308 is cylinder misfire.

have you changed your spark plugs ever? Could have a bad ignition coil

Sorry, I mis-typed. The code is P0340, not P0304.

Wow, I am reading some bad stuff about American Muscle service. I might end up getting an alternator from Rock Auto. I thought they (AM) were a good company.

Default Help me decide---

I reset the code with my hand held tuner. Sometime later, it returned. Do you guys think it is time to replace my alternator? Car has 130K miles on the clock.

I pulled the trigger and ordered the PA Alternator from AM along with the Upgraded Power Wire kit. Hope this solves my problem. With 130K miles on the clock, I'm sure it isn't wasted money.
