Question Check Engine Light

Check engine light came on on my 2012 V6. Took it to get the diagnostic code and the guy said P0456 evap emission/very small leak. He said its probably pertaining to the gas cap. However the 2012 Mustang does not have a gas cap. To get it fixed they would basically have to replace the hose or whatever that runs to the gas tank? Any work around around this or experiences with this?

First off, a "very small leak" can be anywhere. Without a gas cap, you don't have the option of a less than $10 fix attempt. Best thing to do is have a shop smoke the evap system for leaks. Could be a simple split on one of the hoses that might be visible if you crawl under the car, might not be.

the seal/o-ring on the capless filler flap might have some crud on it, preventing the flap from sealing.

the only way to fix this without blindly guessing is to properly test the system for leaks with a smoke machine. take it to a shop that has 1 and knows how to use it, they will be able to tell u exactly what the failed part is
