Harmonic balancer and timing
Hello. I just replaced a harmonic balancer on my girlfriends 07 v6 mustang and someone was telling me that I need to line up the notches on the harmonic balancer with the notches on the engine for timing if the crankshaft has moved at all. Where is that notch on these engines? It's running fine, but I haven't seen anything about timing marks on any intructions. Thank you for any replies.

Welcome! You didn't change the timing chain while it was off, did you?
If all you're doing is the harmonic balancer, the only "notch" you have to worry about lining up is the keyway. Your CKP sensor will read the crank trigger (which I guess kind of serves as "timing marks", in a way) and take care of the ignition timing for you.

If you simply replaced the harmonic balancer then there's nothing else to "align" the single notch (Keyway) on the balancer and the crankshaft already clock the harmonic balancer correctly.
Now, if you also replaced a timing chain and didn't align things, that's another story....

Thank you guys for all of your replies. That is exactly what I was thinking. Since I didn't touch the timing chain then there is nothing to worry about. I'm not exactly sure why he was saying that (him being an experienced mechanic) since it doesn't make any sense that I could have messed up the timing.
