Looking for my dad’s (previously owned) mustang (original owner)
Hi! This may be a bit of a long shot, but I’m trying to track down (previously) my dad’s 2007 mustang gt deluxe to attempt to buy it from the current owner. Due to privacy laws, VIN lookups gave me a lot of good information, however I don’t have any contact information or any specific location, other than it being registered in Virginia in April of this year (2025). It has at least 170,000 miles or so, probably more, is a red on red exterior and interior, came factory with the touchscreen/pioneer audio system, has a billet aluminum insert around the center console cup holder, and is a 5-speed manual. The VIN number is 1ZVHT82H375348428, and it’s been around the block a little. My dad traded it in in western PA to buy the car I currently drive, a nitrous blue 2017 focus RS, and I would love to find this car and be able to drive it since it was a huge part of my childhood and was one of the most stable and consistent things as my parents went through a divorce when I was younger. I know it’s been titled in PA, MD, NC, and currently is titled as I previously mentioned in VA. I know it went through an insurance auction somewhere around 2019 for some sort of stripping damage, but it really looked to be completely fine except for the wheels that had been removed. If anyone has any tips or contacts who might know anything about the current whereabouts or the current owner, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for the advice! I’ve used carVertical so far but I may try CARFAX to see if it gives me anything more. Since I know it’s in Virginia somewhere I may contact the Virginia DMV to see if there’s any more info they can give me. I’ve found a lot of info so far but due to privacy laws actually finding the specific location or owner is rather difficult, and obviously I don’t want to invade the current owner’s privacy. I just want to find a phone number or general area so I can either keep an eye on listings for it or reach out and talk to them just to see if they’d be interested in selling or what state the car is in without being pushy or annoying.
Hi, this isn’t a long shot at all, especially with how much detail you already have. Since you know the VIN, I’d recommend running a full Vehicle History Report through a service https://carfast.express/en/cars/check , as it can reveal more than basic title data including registration timelines, auction appearances, mileage updates, and sometimes the last dealer or insurance auction it passed through, which could help narrow down where in Virginia the car last surfaced. If the report points to a recent dealer or auction lane, that gives you a realistic lead to follow up on through public channels or local Mustang communities without crossing any privacy boundaries.
