Default Mercon ATF power steering fluid

Hey guys I'm new. I have a question. In the manual it says use Mercon ATF power steering fluid. What is that, a brand? or a code or something? And can any other fluid be used? Thanks.

Default RE: Mercon ATF power steering fluid

Mercon ATF is Automatic Transmission Fluid. This is what will work for refilling the power steering fluid if it is getting low. If you are having to put some in now, then something is probably wrong and you may have a leak somewhere. Any place that you can buy motor oil from is probably going to have Power Steering Fluid as well. Just look at the labels on the bottles in your auto parts store for a Power Steeing Fluid. There is nothing all that special about it. You may also see Dexron when you start looking at Mercon ATF in your auto parts store, this is pretty common as well. Should work fine in your car.
