:( my stang !
ok guys, well i guess this si what i get for being my first manual and taking it to hard:
i was driving down a 45mph road in 5th gear (going to pick someone up) so someone else was giving me directions and they had told me to turn right at the last minute, so i went to downshift and i think i accidently tried to pull the lever into reverse it made a really aweful grinding noise, a really loud and horrible one i can't even describe it, so i quickly tried to correct myself and slammed it in second and sped off. a few minutes later when im slowing down for a stop light i hear a clicking noise coming from the tranny when my foot is OFF the gas, i know that can't be good. i kept on hearing it the whole way home but it started to change the way it sounded, as i came closer to my house it started to sound like a buzzsaw when i was letting off. any idea of what could be wrong? any serious damage?

at a minimum the shavings from 'the grind' are still in there- I wouldnt drive any more than necessary to get the tranny oil changed to prevent circulating shiny bits thru the tranny- but without teardown will likely never get it all out- I think its got a manetic plug(would hope so)...if REAL lucky the burred gears/synchros whatever may lap back in a bit, but I'm kinda pessimistic...I'm thinking it will never be as quiet as it was without parts...I would suggest before going in for warranty talking frankly (anonomously) with a service manager at a different dealership, and get their thoughts on this- I think they will know at a glance if gears were ground, and I doubt thats a warranty thing.
Are you sure nothing is wrong with shift linkage? getting into reverse gate seems like it would be kinda hard to do- if shifter is messed up, then it should be no problem warranty claim..."it was getting stuck in gear really bad and then it sounded like it was grinding" or something like that might be a warranty item, but "I hit reverse" would probably not go too far... good luck with it!

well my father was saying it would probably have something to do with the synchronizers, what do you mean by the shifter messed up? after i grinded it i could go through 1-5 fine (atleast it felt pretty fine) but i didnt try reverse, and when i said i tried to pull the lever in reverse, i mean like it didnt go in, thats where it grinded it at becuase iwas trying to go in but it wouldnt, i normally dont use 5th gear much either, just 1-4 and i had not driven the mustang in a while either. (roughly 2 weeks).

I just mentioned the shifter as I thought it would be hard to get from 5th to reverse, but took a little highway jaunt tonight, and see it wouldnt be that hard...I'd really thought 5th would'pop over' more when pulled back, but not really...also mentioned shifter as if say gear slider 'stuck' in 5th and you really yanked to pull loose, it might not be hard to pull too hard and hit reverse...might make for a weak warranty claim- if it happened that way...
