Default New Shift ****, Custom Made

I made this today, fits like a glove and looks great. Thanks to 05SatinSilver for telling me which size tap to use. I'll snap a picture of the **** installed a little later.

If anyone is interested, I might make a few more.

You should have placed a patent on it. Now millions will copy that style. Looks nice though. Post those pics

I think I can live without the patent rights to this one lol, there really isn't anything unique about the design, it's just a 2.25 inch ball with a hole in it. I happened to have it laying around and thought it might make for a nice ****.

I like it. Good job. Is that an acrylic ball? Very impressive if it is because that stuff can crack if you drill too fast or get carried away. Congrats!

Glad you like it. It is indeed acrylic, and to tell the truth I didn't really have too much trouble drilling & tapping it. I used a cheap table press that I got on ebay, took it slow and eased the bit on in there like a gentleman. I'm not particularly handy, but it was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Don't think the thought hasn't occurred to me. Wiring a LED into it would be a peice of cake. I could just run a wire right down under the shift boot and tap into the 12v in the armrest. Or I could run it off a 9v battery which could probably power a LED for weeks. I could even use a cluster of 3 leds to make the **** MyColor-compatible.

What I'd really like to do though is wire it so that I could get some kind of information back. Like by wiring it to a radar detector so that it flashes, or to a sensor under the hood so that is changes color according to intake temperature, boost pressure or whatever else gets you hot.

I can get these ***** in a UV-sensitive material and wire a UV led in there as well.

That brings back a memory, hawg. Many years ago, my buddy had a '53 Chevy with a standard trans. We put a cheap ten buck shifter in it and for a ball, he bought a clear green one with gold metal flake in it. We thought it would be neat if it lit up, so I drilled a small hole in it and stuck a little light bulb in it. We couldnt wait till it got dark to try it. But when we went for a test drive at night and switched the lights on, that damn thing lit up the whole interior and there were zillions of dark spots caused by the metal flake! It was sorta like bein in a disco ball! It was too hard to see out of the car with the insides so bright, so it got unplugged right away. Thanks fer the memory!

You should make a reddish one for Prof Wizard!
Don't wizards usually have a crystal ball?
