Default Hood Questions

Hi all

I have my baby put away for the winter up here in Minnesota, but im looking for the mods im going to be buyin with my bonus check in february.
First thing im thinking about is a new hood....I like the gefracing hood and the champion fiberglass shelby hood....however I hae 2 concerns.

1. Do I need hood pins if im not racing it?
2. It looks like neither hood has the windshield washer nozzles drilled out.

Anyone have any answers to this question?

Here are the links to the hoods in question

the gtr hood from rk sport looks identical but has the nozzle holes already cut and is functional. you will want the pins though. the increased air under the hood causes it to start lifting at about 60mph. not a saftey problem i don't think but nonetheless i didn't like it. now it's stable to 120mph so far. look on ebay sometimes you can get them cheap from rksport direct. got mine for 219+shipping.
the hoods you are looking at may not need pins if they aren't functional. cutting holes for the nozzles is not that hard if you have a dremel and patience...but i would do it before painting just in case.

I guess I just dont like the tall cowl on the GTR hood from RK sport.

Im going to have a body shop do the paint and install, but I just am scared to have them drill into my hood.
Also im not a fan of the hood pin look, and I dont plan on going 120MPH other than for a few seconds maybe once in a blue moon.
However if its a safety issues I guess it needs to be done....
anymore opinions? Id like to hear them from people that have done this already

I just received my hood I ordered from Champion. The hood was well made with just a little extra prep work. When I ordered it I asked if hood pins are needed and they told me that with the factory hood dancing around at high speeds the would recomend hood pins on any aftermarket hood. As for the washer sprayer there are 2 small indents on the surface of the hood where they go. It will need to be drilled to install them.

I don't know if this helps or not but I have a Steeda "functional racing hood" (fiberglass). I doesn't seem to "need" pins but I like em so I got em. The washer nozzles are moved to under the "lip" of the cowl by the windshield. I think if you are going to spend that much on the hood you probably like the aggressive look and you can't go wrong with old school hood pins. There are some new ones.. One guy on this forum is nuts for 'em but old school looks so aggressive. Just my two cents. Good Luck and send pics!!!!

Do you have the pics of your Champion Shelby hood? Is there like a mesh where the vents are? Also what hood pins should I get I see that ford racing has some, but im trying to get as close to a 1967 Shelby GT350 as possible.

So I think im leaning toward the champion Shelby hood, anyone think the Gefracing hood "legend" is better?
